The Glyndŵr National Park
The following message is from Miles Hunter, who has owned and run Pen-y-Dyffryn Hotel in Rhydycroesau for the last 36 years. He’s asking people to make sure they respond to the current public consultation on the National Park. The 2024 consultation resulted in 52% of the people voting in favour of the park going ahead, with a further 10% in favour if the borders could be adjusted. National Resources Wales has adjusted the borders as requested and is now conducting an amended consultation. Anyway, this is what Miles has to say:
“..More information has just been released by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) about the proposed national park in north-east Wales - The Glyndŵr National Park. The National Park has been reduced in size from the original proposal but it still includes the land where the Mynydd Mawr wind farm is being proposed. Should the National Park get the go-ahead it will frustrate Galileo's plans for the wind farm, as large industrial developments such as this are not permitted in National Parks. NRW are now inviting further public feedback about the National Park before making their final recommendations to the Welsh government. The consultation deadline is December 8th 2025, so the clock is ticking to make your views known. Public support for the National Park will play a part in the Welsh Government's decision-making process, and you can register your support for the National Park by using the consultation link below.
National Park status will bring countless other benefits to this area. As Ashe Pearce of Natural Resources Wales states on the National Park website -
‘This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to protect nature, support communities, and shape a better future for this stunning part of Wales. We know change can be difficult, but with the right approach, a new National Park could bring real benefits for people, wildlife and the local economy.’
Don't miss the December 8th deadline to have your say about the National Park by completing the consultation link…”
